Camera Critters

It's Saturday so it must be time for Camera Critters!

One of my favorite animals at the Houston Zoo
is the meerkat.

I could watch them all day long.

Meerkat

The meerkat or suricate Suricata suricatta is a small mammal and a member of the mongoose family. It inhabits all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana and South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a "mob", "gang" or "clan". A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats at a time, but some superfamilies have had 50 or more. Meerkats have an average life span of 12 to 14 years.

Meerkat

Here he is on sentry duty.

He caught me taking his portrait!
He turned his head as I snapped.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

Be sure to visit Camera Critters to see other wonderful critters.

I love meerkats. We have a very good display of them here in Tulsa also. It has been years since I've been to the Houston Zoo.

I must check to see if there are Meerkats at the Denver zoo. I guess he thought you were an intruder, Snap - it was his job!

Great pictures. Meerkats are so cute and I love watching them when I get the chance (the zoo here doesn't keep any)

My darling little grandson introduced me to these hilarious little fellas. Aren't they just too much? He knows more about animals that most adults....it's been an interesting journey.

Thanks for sharing and I'll send these pix to my grandson too. He'll love 'em.

Warmly,
Spencer

They are fun to watch, particularly if the zoo has a large group of them. Their behavior reminds me a lot of prairie dogs.

Sweet! We watched some for a while last time we were in Florida - they made us laugh a lot. I had no idea they lived so long though. Thanks for sharing!

I have always loved apes and chimps. I really can and have watch them forever. They are so amusing. There are times I truly believe they see me and are performing for me.
