I Heard A Bird Sing

I love this little poem.
The words are just as true in January as December.

I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.

A magical thing

And sweet to remember.

"We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,"

I heard a bird sing

In the dark of December.

–Oliver Herford (1863–1935)

Robin

The robins, cardinals, jays, doves and sparrows have been busy singing.
Thanking me for putting extra food out for them on these cold days.

I thought the cold winter days could use a little cheer.
Cassie helping me with this little still life,
Yellow is such a happy color!

Meanwhile, my tree is still up.
It's hard to take it down.
It's so pretty and twinkly -- everyone needs more twinkly!

The snowmen will have a place of honor throughout the month of January.
It is winter -- even on the Gulf Coast.

This and That

- June Is National Iced Tea Month
and that's a very good thing!

- June marks the beginning of hurricane season
and that is not a very good thing.......

- ICAD (Index Card A Day) started --
June and July --
61 little pieces of art on an index card.

This is my Index Card for June 1.
Mixed-media, paper scraps, ephemera, stamps, fortune cookie.

"The challenge is about the DOING and not the
KEEPING or PRESERVING or ARCHIVING.
It is the process of creating each day that matters."

~ Tammy at Daisy Yellow

- I had a birthday.

It started by opening all the birthday cards.

SunLit Sunday

It's that time again.
Time to bring a little Sunlight into our lives during the dark days of winter.
I'm joining Karen for the first SunLit Sunday for 2016.

Cardinal

I see Daddy Cardinal more often than I see Mom.
His color is so striking against the green fan palm.
All my bird friends seem to be enjoying the new garden.
No one has fallen into the water garden since their own bird bath was added.

Robin

Little Robin and his Robin buddies come by -- not necessarily to eat,
but to take a bath.
Where did I put those tiny towels??!!!!!!
No matter how many pix I took of this little fella,
he was always standing on one leg.

Happy Sweet '16.

Wishing YOU well and much joy in the new year.

Thanks, Karen!

Camera Critters 66

Camera Critters

This week for Camera Critters I'm going to take you to our back yard
and another visit to Musashi's Garden.
We've had several bird families visit to feed and enjoy the bird bath.
Here's one of those families - a father and his babe.

Where's the food dad?

Quick! Go into the song and dance routine.
She's watching!

Can we eat NOW?

Where did Dad go?

(Click on the photos to make them larger.)

Have a wonderful weekend.

Joy to You!

Camera Critters 42

Camera Critters

It's Camera Critters time again. We've gone from the zoo (last week) back to our own back yard this week. These pictures were all taken earlier in the year and perhaps last year. At any rate, before Hurricane Ike. Seems like we are dating everything BI (before Ike) or AI (after Ike). I am pleased to report that all our bird friends made it through the storm and are back in our backyard at feeding time.

Ma and Pa cardinal have raised several little ones from a nest
in our duranta. Dad is sitting on a cage that we had
around a lime tree.

Mourning Dove

We were out working in another area of our postage stamp
backyard and were late feeding.
Normally, we do not feed on the ground, but the
birds were in such a hurry and making such a racket
that we tossed seed wherever!

See you next week!
