Stay Cozy

"Winter is the time for comfort,
for good food and warmth,
for the touch of a friendly hand
and for a talk beside the fire.
It is the time for home."
~ Edith Sitwell

I was greeted by this poem when I opened my January
Texas Market Box.
Even the Gulf Coast of Texas is having winter this year.
I've given up trying to save the tropicals.
There will be a lot of planting in the spring!

Back to the Texas Market Box!

My Texas Market

I've been subscribing to the Texas Market box for several years now.
I've never been disappointed with the contents.
Always something I've not seen before and fun!

Here's how the Texas Market folks describe their service:

"My Texas Market is a subscription-based delivery service that sends  carefully curated packages filled with small-batch, artisan items from  farmers’ markets and local Texas businesses to customers each month.   Our purpose is to expose consumers to great new products and companies,  offer vendors a new market, encourage the support of local artisan  businesses, and simply share our love for the Texas farmers' market with  people who might not be able to enjoy it in person."

I Heard A Bird Sing

I love this little poem.
The words are just as true in January as December.

I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.

A magical thing

And sweet to remember.

"We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,"

I heard a bird sing

In the dark of December.

–Oliver Herford (1863–1935)

Robin

The robins, cardinals, jays, doves and sparrows have been busy singing.
Thanking me for putting extra food out for them on these cold days.

Cardinal

I thought the cold winter days could use a little cheer.
Cassie helping me with this little still life,
Yellow is such a happy color!

Cassie Helping!

Meanwhile, my tree is still up.
It's hard to take it down.
It's so pretty and twinkly -- everyone needs more twinkly!

The snowmen will have a place of honor throughout the month of January.
It is winter -- even on the Gulf Coast.

Chasing Sun Puddles

After several cloudy, rainy days,
the sun made an appearance
and the kitties started chasing the sun puddles.

Teddy and Mina

I saw Teddy and Mina first.

Chasing Sunbeams

Then I moved to take another shot and lo and behold --
the lovely Cassie was sun-puddling, too.
Cassie usually takes off the minute the camera comes out.

Chasing Sunbeams

"Come on Mum. Put that camera up and leave us alone!"

Chasing Sunbeams

I think the kitties have the right idea.

Thank you to the hosts of:

Wishing YOU well and much joy!

Well Rounded

All the Christmas decorations are down and packed away waiting for next year.
All except the Snowmen.
After all, it is still winter!

Bentley Teacup

Snowmen are well-rounded
just like my favorite handmade, hand thrown teapot.
I know it looks funny, especially with its stubby spout,
but it pours beautifully and has a strainer that can be removed.
I can do multiple brewings just by lifting out the strainer.
The design on the exterior has an Asian feel.

Snowmen Cookies

The last of the yummy Snowmen sugar cookies.
I'll be sorry to see them go as I'm sure they've helped in keeping me
well-rounded!

Bentley Teacup

The teacup is from Bentley.
Bentley put out a collection of teas several years ago and included the teacup.
It's become a favorite.

The little watercolor is one of mine
and part of a series of snowmen I'm doing.
I seem to have to do a series ... one isn't enough!

My little snowman would like to remind you:
Be a jolly, happy soul.
Spend time outdoors.
Stay cool.
It’s okay to be a little bottom heavy.
Avoid meltdowns.
Be well-rounded.
Live well, life is short.

Enjoy sugar cookies!

Wishing YOU well, much joy and a wonderful cup of tea!

I'm joining several parties today:

Sun Lit Sunday

It's time for Sun Lit Sunday.
My blogging buddy, Karen, hosts Sun Lit Sunday during the winter as
a spot where people could share the "sunny" side of winter. Every season has its own beauty and this one is no exception.

Where I live plants are still green.
It's damp and temps are in the 40s.

Getting cozy, like this pair of doves, helps!

Baby It's Cold Outside

But it is also the time of year when I can open the front door for awhile and the "babies" can get a touch of fresh air while watching the action in the neighborhood!

The Family --

Thank you to Karen for hosting Sun Lit Sunday.

Wishing YOU well and much joy.

Winter Dreams

So many of you are dealing with winter issues.
Snow, snow and more snow.
Cold, cold and more cold.

When I saw this snowy postcard I knew it was the one for

This is a postcard from another of the wonderful Pomegranate postcard books -
this one on Charles Addams.

Addams (1912-1989) worked mainly in black and white, using ink wash to great and spooky effect, but he turned out the occasional colorful New Yorker cover.

"A three-time college dropout, Charles Addams was nevertheless an erudite, urbane, and - leaving aside his substantial collection of medieval weaponry - evidently quite normal man. The New Yorker published its first Chas Addams cartoon in the early thirties, and a few years later signed him on as a salaried artist at $35 a week. Nearly all of his 1,300 published cartoons appeared in The New Yorker over the course of a 50 year career.

Addams is probably most closely associated with the wraiths, ghoouls, thugs, and toadlike children who populate a desolate Victorian mansion - the characters, initially unnamed by their creator, who became known as the Addams Family. Gomez, Morticia, and their sinister servants and feral offspring gave rise to a silly but fondly remembered television show and two silly and very funny movies."

From Chas Addams: A Book of Postcards published by Pomegranate.

I'll spend the rest of the day humming the theme song to the Addams family!

A big thank you to Beth for hosting Postcard Friendship Friday.

Wishing you well, a Joy filled weekend, and some sun to warm you!
