Celebrating Earth Day

Monarch Butterfly

Today I'm celebrating Earth Day.
Last year there were no butterflies in my garden.
I blame the horrible drought.

Monarch Butterfly Mosaic

But this year, this fellow came to visit.
I had to take his portrait shooting through the patio doors.
Good thing they were sort of clean.

Monarch Mosaic

Isn't he handsome?
I'm so glad he liked the zinnia.

Mosaic of Monarch Butterfly

How are you going to celebrate Earth Day?
I'm going to walk to Reckling Park and watch a college baseball game.
I'm going to make my walk a treasure hunt.
I'll make it up as I go along!

Monarch Butterfly

Did you know that one person taking a shorter shower could save 20 gallons of clean drinking water?
Just think, if thousands of people did the same the gallons would really add up.
It's the little things.

Thank you to:

Wishing YOU well and much joy!

The beauty of nature and I always appreciate how long a butterfly will stay in one place -- usually long enough for us to enjoy the beauty.

I'm certainly saving water this Earth Day with no fully functioning bathroom -- no showers to be had for 2 weeks. And with all of us at home now (guys home from school) that's a lot of water saved!

Beautiful series of photos! Hope you have a wonderful Earth Day. I do believe if my son took shorter showers, he could save 40 gallons of clean drinking water.

Beautiful Monarch pictures. I've had a steady stream of these beauties through my garden this spring, very unlike last year.

What better way to celebrate a special day than by watching a baseball game? Happy Earth Day!

Exquisite!
Yes, it's the little things that, when gathered together, make a huge impact - and we're all capable of doing these little things.

Hi Snap
I also think we have to save water. We take a bath instead of shower everyday. So I use the rest of bath water for washing.
We have to save electricity, too. After 3.11.rately all nuclear power plants were stopped. So during hot summer electric power may run short.
Cheers to Erath Day.

Wonderful you caught him this way!
It is Google that reminded me of Earth Day, I just did not know anything about this. So I have been celebrating it by reading on this on my computer.
Happy Sunday!

That fellow sure is handsome. I haven't seen any butterflies here yet, probably still too cold at night.
Great photos. One would never know you took them through a door.

I'm glad the butterflies have returned to you, and you got some awesome shots of your visitor.
Your comments on saving water during showers made me think of a sign I saw back in school days - 'save water, shower with a buddy'. :-)

What beaufiful butterfly pictures. I have the worse luck whenever I try to photograph one. I'm guessing you have a nice camera where I have a $75 point and shoot and hope for the best! I would love to be able to take a walk and watch a college baseball game (I'm a BIG baseball fan!).

Happy Earth Day! Such a graceful monarch.

How did I celebrate? We went to the Los Angeles River and we saw a few homeless and all the trash along the banks.

Next week will be clean up time for the group, Friends of the LA River.

Cassie looks so cute in your other post!

WOW! Those are extraordinary photos! Butterflies are one of God's most beautiful and delicate creations :) I used to have a bush in the yard that they congregated on and my neighbor said it was called a butterfly bush, but I could never find it in any plant book and it didn't look like the ones on the internet. It has since died and now we hardly ever see any butterflies :(
