In my neck of the woods, black-eyed peas are the tradition.

I didn't make it to the magic hour.
I climbed into bed with the kitties, listened to the New York Philharmonic's
New Year's concert and had a glass of Prosecco.

| Thank you to SageGoddess.com for the photo. My Christmas cactus started blooming the day after Christmas. Close enough!  Santa was full of Walkers Shortbread and now has what is left of Trader Joe's mini-gingerbread men. All the outdoor decorations are down and put in their resting place, but the tree is still up! I've had back problems and decided it was just easier to leave it, enjoy it and maybe by Valentine's Day it will be down! Ha!  My friends and family know me well. I love Tea anything! I have a new holiday mug -- nice, big, sturdy and I love the red and white. Yes, the teapot was a gift, too. My beautiful step-daughter sent me a box full of "made in Washington" goodies -- the chocolate covered Chukar Cherries go well with tea! The towels have lovely snowflakes.  This is the second Shin-yu Infinity Scarf I've made with Caron Cakes. My beautiful god-daughter saw the first one and walked out the door with it before I got a picture of it. This is a wonderful crochet pattern by ChiChi Allen. The directions are clear and precise and she includes photos. The pattern can be found on her Ravelry site or her blog. I just started The Glass Universe. An interesting look at astronomy (before it became astrophysics) and the role women played in the early days.

I just heard a discussion on the radio of "The Glass Universe" -- sounds like a fascinating book about some very overlooked women's contributions to science! Happy New Year, Snap!

We didn't light fireworks, we didn't make noise, eat anything special or watch TV but we did drink champagne and talked about our plans for the New Year before slipping off to bed before midnight.

I had my black-eyed peas and cabbage, so I am looking forward to a very lucky year, and the Year of the Rooster is my husband's birth year, so this should be a good year for him. We are all set! What could possibly go wrong? Happy New Year to you, too.

ReplyDeleteYour year end/beginning celebration sounds pretty perfect to me. We did stay up until midnight (for a change) walking the beach mostly -- there were fireworks at midnight (a NY tradition we weren't familiar with in our other life, when we lived in the Pacific Northwest -- I guess its a Florida thing.)

We stayed one winter at an RV Park that re-decorated the tree in the rec-hall for Valentine's Day and then for Mardi Gras. (Maybe for Easter too, but we left before that.
Lots of interesting tidbits in this post, Snap - love the scarf you made. It's such a pretty range of color. Tea-themed gifts are always lovely to receive because they aren't often something we purchase for ourselves. Have a wonderful week.

Yes, I managed to stay awake this year to watch the ball drop. No banging of pots to chase anything away, but my neighbors set of plenty of fireworks, God bless them. No eating of lucky foods either. I never consider beans "lucky." Ha! Happy New Year, Snap! Many blessings in 2017.
ReplyDeleteI was not up till midnight but was out later than my usual 10pm. I like to get home before the party crowd gets on the road. I had curry beef which was very good and a couple of good movies. Sylvia D.

ReplyDeleteWe visited friends who live 2 hours away, so it was an overnighter. We did stay up to welcome the new year then promptly went to bed. No traditional lucky food, just good friendship. I enjoyed you post because it is bright and cheerful.

I've had lots of PC problems over the last few months and think a new one is on the cards before the thing blows up, so I have not posted in ages, thank you for coming to see me!
