I try to walk every morning just before sunrise ...
before it gets too hot and humid.
I was on the home stretch ...
just a few houses from mine ...
when I stopped ...
I wasn't the only one out walking.
I was on the sidewalk
I was on the sidewalk
and he was walking down the middle of the street.
Yellow Crowned Night Herons roost in oak trees
on the Rice University campus and surrounding neighborhoods.
This was the first time for me to see one of these beauties
in my area.
I zipped home quickly, grabbed the camera
and walked back down the street.
Would he still be around?
Yep!
I told him he shouldn't be in the street ...
Folks would be leaving for work soon ...
I'm hoping he'll come by and visit again one morning.
Wishing YOU well and much joy!

What an amazing siting! I have not seen this bird before; he is a beauty. And to think he was just in the middle of the street. How cool is that?
Beautiful images of the Night Heron, well done.
I worked at Rice Univ. for a few summers in college, I never saw herons there. What a great discovery just out for your morning stroll! He is very elegant and lovely patterns in the feathers on his wings.
How wonderful to see this handsome bird. Great shots.
strange to see this one in the street. You were lucky that it stayed put so you could get some shots.
It's always lovely when you find an unexpected bird. His eye is large and striking. I hope he made it safely home again.

What a treat to meet him whilst out walking early in the day and how good of him to wait until you fetched your camera to record the event! Great captures.
Wow!!!!! FAbulous photos - what a lucky thing that he was still there. One time we saw Snadhill Cranes in a park when we were on vacation in Wisconsin - simply amazing.
What a great sighting. Nice photos too!

Oh my goodness! You were so lucky that he waited! What great photos. We have lots of herons here in Florida but I'm not sure I've seen one this handsome! Hugs, Diane

Beautiful shots of Night Heron.
Nice colouring on the face of this heron, glad he stuck around long enough for you to get your camera.
Well, we made it up to 80F today so I think summer must have remembered to stop by after all. Don't think I could take the heat you have day after day.
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday Sharon.
Great photos of this surprise visitor. Amazing that he was still there when you returned with your camera!
Cute sighting!
He is a fine looking gentleman and wasn't he kind to wait for you to come back with your camera.
How fun! I've been taking daily walks lately, and I'm always sad when I come across something (a deer, bunny, birds) that I would like to take a picture of. How cool he was still there when you got back!
Wow,your photos certainly caught my attention. I've never seen that type of heron before. Incredible photographs! It's as if he waited for you to photograph him.
