It's Baby Time!





It's baby time at the Houston Zoo.



Baridi

This is Baridi, the newest member of the Giraffe herd.
He was 6' 6" tall at birth and weighted in at 165 pounds.
Baridi means cold in Swahili. He was born on a very cold morning.

Meet Duncan, the newest member of the Asian Elephant herd.
He was 6 days old when I visited.
He's with his Mom, Shanti.

  1. Oh poor baby born on such a cold day. That's no way to welcome a giraffe. This has got to be one of your favorite times for visiting the zoo.

  6. I just love these zoo babies. Have you seen though the terrible recent events with one of the zoos killing a young giraffe because it was not appropriate to breed him. Done right in front of people and then fed to the lions. Terrible thing for zoos to do, and apparently not too unusual of a thing. I was horrified. We recently had two baby elephants at the Fort worth zoo too and it has been so much fun watching them. Love your shots!

  8. omgoodness, they are soooo cute!! i am not a huge fan of zoos BUT still visit them and enjoy seeing these animals up close. an opportunity we would not otherwise have!!

  13. Two of my favorite animals...the giraffe and elephant. What cute babies they have; although I guess at 6'6", 165 lbs. can we really call him a baby!!
