Memorial Day



On this Memorial Day
I'd like to share my Daddy with you.
He fought in World War 2 in the South Pacific and he
was one of the lucky ones ... he came home.
On his return he spent a lot of time at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio.
He didn't talk about the war, just said when he came home he could only eat
life savers and coke.

Daddy died January 1973 from lung cancer.
He is buried in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He had the most beautiful blue eyes.
I miss him.

Rest in Peace, Daddy.

    Freedom is not free, as they say. Every soldier and their family pays a price. So many soldiers don't like to talk about their traumatic wartime experiences. My Dad was the same way. He was a WW2 vet too.

    Thank you for sharing such a lovely tribute:), and what a wonderful picture of your Dad, too. Mine also served, came home, and lived a good life. He died of cancer in '98, and is buried in Arlington. He never talked much about the wars he fought in. He didn't like talking about them. I think he took with him many terrible memories. But I think he took some good ones too:). Much love to you ...

    Lovely tribute to your handsome Dad. Mine was an air force nose gunner flying missions out of Norfolk, England, he too was very lucky to have come home. It's been almost 10 years now since he passed and I miss him every day. xox Corrine

    My, dad was also a WWII vet. He was stationed in Germany so saw action there. He didn't share many stories either....they went with him to his grave as well.

    What a lovely tribute to your dad. My father-in-law came home too...he didn't talk about it much either. His squadron met every year and kept in touch for a long time...they slowly started passing away or getting sick. He never missed a reunion. Thanks for sharing your dad...

    My Dad was a WWII vet also, Snap. He was wounded and sent stateside before the end of the war. Luckily he then met my Mom!
