Children At Christmas

"There flourished, in the early 20th century, a culture of postcards. Hundreds of publishers poured out, each year, thousands of new designs. Artists were kept busy thinking of new subjects, and new ways to illustrate old subjects. Printing presses were run night and day churning out the many new designs -- thousands of each. While no one knows exactly how many different postcard designs were created in this period, it would not be an exaggeration to say that hundreds of millions of cards were printed during this fertile period.

Christmas was, in the avalanche, the most popular subject. Every nuance, every tradition, every character was explored from every conceivable angle, and since Christmas is a holiday closely associate with children, they were frequently featured."

Children At Christmas

A Merry Christmas
"Here's a fine fellow, as gay as can be,
For all of his presents just fit to a -T-."

There is no date or artist listed on the back of this postcard,
but it was published by the International Art Publishing Company.

The artist of this little girl postcard was Margaret Evans Price.
Price was a Western New York artist, painter and toy designer.
She is primarily known for the many children's books that she wrote and
illustrated or collaborated on. She and her husband co-founded the
Fisher-Price toy company.

No date or publisher is listed.

My thanks the Beth for hosting Postcard Friendship Friday.

Wishing YOU well and fun filled weekend!

***
I hope you enjoyed seeing the latest photos of Teddy and little Cassie.
Teddy is a natural at posing. He's easy to photograph.
Little Cassie is a perpetual motion machine and
when she sees me with the camera, she walks away or walks directly to me.
Very rarely do I take a photo of her that isn't blurred!

Teddy and Cassie are my furbabies.
My companions who share my tears, my smiles, my laughs, my world.
And I share theirs.

Today I'm linking to My World and my thanks to the My World team for hosting.

Wishing YOU well and a JOY filled week!

Pancakes With The Pachyderms

There is just no better way to start off a Holiday week for me
than to go to the Houston Zoo.
Last weekend was Pancakes with the Pachyderms,
a celebration of the opening of the completion of the McNair elephant habitat
and, as you can tell,
taking pictures of the pancakes wasn't on my list of things to do!
I will say that breakfast was very good ... a whole buffet spread
that included eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, scones, breakfast rolls,
Mimosas, Bloody Marys and you could order up an omelet if you wished.

The stars of the show were the Asian Elephants.
Tess (with the blond hair at her ears),
Tupelo (Tess' calf),
Baylor and Shanti (Baylor's Mom).

Asian Elephants

Baby Tupelo seems to always take over the show.
What a cutie and such a little squirt!

Asian Elephants

Tupelo had an exciting morning and was resting and thinking
about what to get into next!

Asian Elephants

Tupelo and Baylor love their new space.
It includes a big pool for them to play in.

Baylor trying to goof off with his Mom, Shanti.
Shanti is very patient!

This is Thailand.
Dad to Tupelo and Baylor.

A big thank you to Misty for being our hostess for Camera Critters.

Wishing YOU well and a JOY filled weekend.
