Boo!

Today I'm sharing a black and white tea for one
with Ms. Abracadabra and her little sister, Boo!

Boo Tea

I think I'm going to brew some Chai to go with the Ghiradelli brownie
and the chocolate chip mini muffin.

Boo Tea

The black and white Tea for One pattern is called Quill.

Tea 4 One

The tea for one came in a wonderful box and I took a picture of it
to show you the information about the cup.
You would need a magnifying glass to read the same info on the bottom of the cup/saucer
and tea pot!

Halloween Tea

I have a theory about living down here near the Gulf of Mexico
where plants are forever green.
When Fall comes around and it's time for Halloween,
we just have to pull out all the stops and decorate.
It's sort of our color changes!
It makes us think that Fall is here and one day it will get cool.

Halloween Tea

So, today I'm sharing a Halloween tea.
My black and white tea for one.
I love the design with all the different tea pots.
I forgot to take a photo of the bottom of the cup and tea pot.
The mark looks like a postage stamp with Pewter Tea Pots,
Designed in England written in the middle.

Halloween Tea

I was reading the latest issue of Martha Stewart Magazine.
I'm not a big magazine reader except for this time of year
when I go hog wild and pig crazy if any publication has anything about
the upcoming holidays. The prettier the photographs the better!
Under GOOD THINGS I found:
"Sensational Sip"
"Cider Rules"
"For those chilly autumn mornings when it's still too early to brew a hot toddy, try a warm, steamy cup of tea steeped in hot cider instead of water. We especially like Earl Grey tea; the resulting combination is a lightly sweet, subtly tart drink that warms the senses."
Will you try it???

Tea For One

There is a wonderful shop in my Village called The British Isles.
Tea cups and tea pots and tea and tea things everywhere you look.
A feast for tea lovers.
I went in one day with a dear friend and I splurged on a Tea For One.

Nina Campbell Tea for One

There were many tea for ones to pick from,
but this caught my eye from the start.
It was so different from all the others with its parrots, butterflies and flowers.
Simple and makes me smile!

Nina Campbell Tea for One

It is designed by Nina Campbell for Roy Kirkham.

Nina Campbell Tea for One

Before the Royal Wedding, I checked the British Isles for
Harney and Sons special Wedding Tea blend
and they didn't have any.
But, as you can see, they got more in and I put my new
Tea for One to work with the Wedding Tea
(black tea, roses and vanilla).

More Tea Bliss

I have one more teacup to share with you that I found at
The Guild Shop.

Paragon Tea Cup

It is a Paragon cup.
My favorite color is green so you can guess that I love this cup.

Mosaic Paragon Tea Cup

I have some more quotes for you from TEA BLISS by Theresa Cheung.

"One should drink tea while appreciating the fragrance of the flowers, the brightness of the moon, the beauty of music. After drinking tea one will  no longer be in a daze but feel as frank and as open as heaven and earth." ~Seng-Jiao Ran (720-799), Chinese monk of the Tang Dynasty

"When you place a tea utensil, you should withdraw your hand as though it were a loved one you were leaving." ~ Sen Rikyu (1522-1591, Japanese Tea Master Who Perfected The Tea Ceremony

"Better to be deprived of food for three days than tea for one."
~Chinese proverb

"One should clean out a room in one's home and place only a tea table and chair in the room with some boiled water and a fragrant tea. Afterward, sit comfortably and allow one's spirit to become tranquil, light, and natural."
~Li Ri Hua (1368-1644), scholar during the Ming Dynasty

"While there's tea there's hope."
~Sir Arthur Wing Pinero (1855-1934). British actor, playwright, and essayist

More Tea Bliss

Another tea cup that I found at the Guild Shop.

Blenheim Tea Cup

I've paired the new tea cup with another Price&Kensington tea pot
that I found at T.J. Maxx. I should have purchased one
in every color that Maxx had,
but I kept telling myself I had enough tea pots!
But it is fun to pair them up with a tea cup to make a pretty tea for one.

Blenheim Mosaic

The bottom of the tea cup reads:
Queen's China
Blenheim
A Crownford Product
English Bone China
Est 1875

Blenheim Tea Cup Mosaic

A few more quotes from Tea Bliss by Theresa Cheung:

"The best state of mind in which to drink tea is one of deep meditation. The second best is while looking at a beautiful landscape or listening to music. The third best is during stimulating conversation. In all cases it is necessary to aspire towards a quiet and tranquil frame of mind."
~Paichang (729-814), Chinese Ch'an (Zen) master

"You can taste and feel, but not describe, the exquisite state of repose produced by tea, that precious drink, which drives away the five causes of sorrow."
~Ch'ien Lung (1710-1789), Chinese emperor

"If you are cold, tea will warm you; if you are too heated, it will cool you; if you are depressed, it will cheer you; if you are excited, it will calm you."
~Anonymous

"I hope next time when we meet, we won't be fighting each other. Instead we will be drinking tea together."
~Jackie Chan, Rumble in the Bronx

"(I am) a hardened and shameless tea drinker, who for twenty years diluted his meals with only the infusion of the fascinating plant; who with tea amused the evening, with tea solaced the midnight, and with tea welcomed the morning."
~Samuel Johnson (1709-1784), English writer

Tea Bliss

A dear friend and I were running errands when we drove past The Guild Shop.
We both said out loud, The Guild Shop, the car turned around and
off we went to an adventure.
I've been in The Guild Shop a dozen times and there won't be a tea cup anywhere.
There are always tea pots, but no tea cups.
On this visit there were tea cups!

Clarence Tea Cup and Tea Pot

I found the little Price&Kensington tea pot at T.J. Maxx.
It makes a nice tea for one for my new Clarence tea cup.

Clarence Tea Cup Mosaic

I really like the dainty flowers and the unusual shape of the cup.

Tea Bliss

I'm still reading The Chinese Art of Tea by John Blofeld, it is interesting, but can be very dry, so I picked up the next tea book in my never-ending book stack, Tea Bliss byTheresa Cheung. The reviews on Amazon are very mixed, but I found this at less than half price and just couldn't pass it up. The illustrations alone were worth the price! I've enjoyed scanning through the book to oooooh and ahhhhh over the photography. The book is full of tea quotes. Here are a few:

"In the taste of a single cup of tea you will eventually discover the truth of all ten thousand forms of the universe." ~ Kyongbong Sunim, Ch'an (Zen) master

"Pour me a little more tea, would you, dear? I can drink it till it comes out of my ears." ~Garek, Star Trek: Deep Space 9

"It's liquor is like the sweetest dew from heaven." ~Lu Yu (733-804), Chinese writer

"Tea is a religion of the art of life." ~Katuzo Okakura (1862-1913), Japanese writer

"Drink your tea slowly and reverently as if it is the axis on which the whole world revolves -- slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future. Live in the actual moment. Only this moment is life."
~Thich Nhat Hanh (1926 - ), Vietnamese-born Buddhist monk and author (one of my favorites).

I have some fun reading ahead of me, just reading the tea quotes!

Drink More Tea

I would like to share a new tea cup and my favorite tea pot with you.
I found the tea cup at Ross. Pretty in Pink!
On the bottom it reads:
Fine China
Dishwasher Safe
Made in China

Drink More Tea

I've had the Bridgewater Tea Pot (for Past Times) for years.
I love that is says Drink More Tea on one side
and
Love and Live Happy
on the other!

Tea

I'm still reading The Chinese Art of Tea by John Blofeld.
It can be rather dull reading, but is fascinating at the same time!
Mr. Blofeld collected tea stories, tea songs, tea poetry his entire lifetime
and shares some of those in this book.
Here is one I especially liked and will share on
Food and Feast tours at the museum:

Under Rare, Legendary and Otherwise Curious Teas he lists
Monkey Tea.

"The first Monkey Tea came from a lonely place haunted by wild beasts, but in the hidden valleys there used to be numerous monasteries with monks or tenants engaged in farming and fruit growing.

According to an old story, a very young novice from Heavenly Wisdom Monastery was looking after some pear trees covered with ripening fruit. Suddenly a large tribe of monkeys came swarming from the forest and set about gobbling up the pears. By the time a few monks came running to help, the trees had been stripped and branches broken, so they all walked back to the monastery with dragging steps, expecting a severe scolding from the abbot. Instead, the old man said resignedly: 'Heaven commands us to show compassion to all living creatures, and so does the teaching of the Buddha. Things come and go. Moreover, monkeys, like all sentient beings, have a spiritual nature. They have taken our pears. Well, so be it.'

Henceforward those holy men allowed the mischievous animals to come and go freely, and the latter, gradually losing their inborn fear of humans, came to regard the monks as friends. The winter that year was unusually cold: heavy falls of snow lay upon trees and mountains, and hundreds of pitiful beasts starved to death. After some weeks a horde of ravenous monkeys invaded the monastery grounds and ran agitatedly around, half-pleading, half-menacing, as though to say:
'Please give us food, or else we shall just have to break in and take it."
So the abbot ordered that bags of food be taken out and distributed to the monkeys;  whereupon the animals uttering loud cries seized the bags and ran back into the forest.

With the arrival of spring came the time for harvesting tea leaves. While this arduous labour was being performed, monkeys came swarming down from the peak dragging along the old bags which now bulged with freshly picked young tea leaves. 'It was as though one's friends were to come back with baskets of peaches to make return for a gift of pears!' The tea, having been picked in places inaccessible to man, was found to be of unrivaled quality. In view of these circumstances, fine tea from that locality became known as monkey tea."

Tea and Books

There is nothing like a cup of tea and a good book.
In this case, it is a book about tea:
The Chinese Art of Tea by John Blofeld.
Mr. Blofeld was a world renowned writer and scholar who
devoted his life to the study of Eastern traditions.
I've just started the book and it is a delight.
Full of history and stories that will fit in with one of my
Food and Feast tours at the museum.

Tea and Books

The tea cup is one I found at Anthropologie.
There are no markings on the bottom of the cup or the saucer.

Tea and Books

I love the orange color and the shape of the cup.
It is very thin and you can feel the tea in the cup.

Tea and Books

In Mr. Blofeld's words:
"Tea is at its best when enjoyed in pleasant surroundings, whether indoors or out, where the atmosphere is tranquil, the setting harmonious. A large party is distracting, whereas the company of two or three relaxed and friendly people contributes to the enjoyment of unusually fine tea. The other two essentials are very pure water and a set of tea-things that please the eye on account of their subdued, unostentatious beauty, thus adding to the prevailing atmosphere of tranquil harmony. Nevertheless, a perfect combination of these five --- setting, company, tea, water and tea-things -- will fail to work its magic in the absence of the special attitude required to do them justice."

Sunflower

"The key to that attitude is mindfulness. The world today is so full of distractions that mindfulness, which must have come about spontaneously in times gone by, has to be cultivated. Once this has been achieved, a thousand hitherto unnoticed beauties will reveal themselves. For example, there is music in the hiss and bubble of a kettle, a springtime freshness in the fragrance of the steam rising from the teacups, and a gentle exhilaration -- too subtle to be apparent to a distracted mind -- results from certain mysterious properties inherent in the tea itself, particularly in the case of green and oolong teas as opposed to black teas. "

"The spirit of tea is like the spirit of the Tao: It flows spontaneously, roaming here and there impatient of restraint."

A Treat Each Year

I love hand made objects. They have a certain spirit to them.
Each year I go to the student art sale at the Glassell school.
Each year it is my goal to come home with one tea cup.
Sometimes I come  home with a little something extra.
This year I came home with the kitty print.
His name is Emeril!
I thought he looks a lot like my Teddy.

Tea

The  tea pot came from Glassell, but not this year.
This is the new tea cup.
It is hand thrown porcelain and is very thin.

Tea Cup

I have criteria for the perfect tea cup.
It must be pleasing to my eye.
It must feel good.
It must feel good in my hands.
And, IT must have a good feel.
You know ... the spirit of the cup .. the feeling of the artist and the clay.
Really.
It's there!

Some years I've picked up a cup and put it right back down.
Not this year.
I knew immediately ... before I touched it ... that it was the one.
It called to me and I brought it home.

Tea

Just like the kitty print.
He called and I listened!

Tea and Cake

Last week I had a birthday.
I went out and bought myself a cake and some flowers.
Came home and put 6 candles on the cake.
One for each decade.
(I didn't want to burn the house down.)

Tea and Cake

Lucille, my sister by choice, knows me well.
She knows that two of my favorite things are tea and birds.

Porcelain Teapot with infuser

For my special day she gave me the lovely Audubon porcelain tea pot (with infuser).

Porcelain Mugs and Spoons

And, two mugs with spoons.
I'm a very lucky girl.

Tea and Cake

When I blew the candles out, I sent a special message up to the stars.
"I miss you and love you and I'm trying hard to LIVE."

Tea and Cake

The cake was a red velvet chocolate cake with cream cheese icing.
I had it for breakfast several days!
It was not on my diet, but birthdays come only once a year.

Thanks to our tea party hostesses.
