More Art In The Park

More Art In The Park
Celebrating the Centennial of Hermann Park.

Wind Waves, made in 2009, is by Mexican artist, Yvonne Domenge (1946).
She was on hand to supervise its placement near the Museum of Natural Science.
From a distance, this Ferrari red orb looks as if it is floating in air.

Art In The Park

Wind Waves is thirteen feet in diameter and weighs close to 6 tons.
Demenge draws on organic curvilinear forms for her sculptures.

Wishing YOU well and much joy.

A big thank you to the Our World Hosts.

Art In The Park

Hermann Park is celebrating its centennial with Public Art.
I've already shared the twig maze.

Twig Maze

Today I'm sharing the Spider.

Spider

A giant arachnid descended on the Jones Reflection pool where it appears to float on the water's surface. It is part of Hermann Park Conservancy's year-long Art In The Park series celebrating the historic green space's centennial.

Spider

Spider was created by the late internationally acclaimed artist Louise Bourgeois.
The newest addition to Hermann Park comes from an anonymous private collector in Houston who offered the loan specifically for
Art In The Park.

Spider

The Spider weighs about 2,000 pounds.
Measurements: About 11 feet tall and 21 feet wide.
Even at those dimensions, the Spider exhibits a strength in metal work yet with a spindly, even intricate, appearance.*

Wishing You well and much joy!

My World: Hermann Park Centennial

Hermann Park is undergoing a transformation.
A giant maze constructed from saplings can be seen sprouting out of the ground
near the Japanese Garden. Constructed with over 1000 volunteer hours, it is the first of nine works of art that will grace Hermann Park as part of the park's centennial celebration. The maze was designed and created by artist, Patrick Dougherty.

Fun!

Zoo Lights

Holiday celebrations in Houston just got a little wilder
with the start of a new tradition at the Houston zoo.
Lions, Tigers and Lights -- OH MY!!

Zoo Lights

Lights depicting many of the zoos animals are located near their habitats.

Zoo Lights

Thousands of twinkling lights, lighted animal sculptures, holiday projections, carolers,
Christmas music throughout the zoo.

Zoo Lights

You can work up an appetite strolling through the zoo.
There's hot chocolate, funnel cakes, cinnamon rolls, gingerbread men,
pizza, sandwiches -- all those good holiday treats that make your mouth water!

I plan on going back several more times.
It was just too much fun!

Thank you to our hosts:

Wishing YOU well and much joy during this holiday season!

My World: Sweet Paris

I promised myself if the *cool* front arrived and the lows were in the 60s,
I would walk into the village on Sunday and have crepes for breakfast.
And I did!

Sweet Paris

This is Sweet Paris
a creperie and cafe where
they are reviving the art of eating crepes
and no passport is needed!

Sweet Paris

I arrived early so I could take pictures without bothering other patrons.
By the time I was finished with my crepe and had read a chapter in my book,
Sweet Paris was filling up quickly.
It is very bright and cheerful with French music playing in the background.
They call the decor French Industrial Chic.
Love the chandeliers.

Sweet Paris

The mirror makes this small cafe feel larger.

Sweet Paris

This is THE FEAST:
two eggs scrambled, feta, ricotta and mozzarella, tomatoes, spinach, and mushrooms.
It was delicious.
They have breakfast crepes, sweet crepes and savory crepes.
If I have a quibble -- they don't serve hot tea.

Sweet Paris

Sweet Paris makes a promise:
For each crepe purchased, they will donate one school meal to a child in need through the U.N. World Food Programme USA.

My World: Tea At The Museum

The Museum of Fine Arts is having Tea on Tuesday
in conjunction with two exhibitions:
Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough: The Treasures of the Kenwood House, London
and Unrivalled Splendor: The Kimiko and John Powers Collection of Japanese Art.

Tuesday Tea And Tour

This is the tea for the Treasures of Kenwood House, London.

Low Tea At The Museum

Lovely place settings and delicious teas and goodies
and a real treat to be served in the midst of one of the European galleries.

Menu Tea at the MFAH

I had a choice of three teas -- all organic.
Organic Earl Grey, Organic Citrus Oolong or Organic Jubilee Rooibos.
I picked the Citrus Oolong and was not disappointed.

Tea At The Museum

The goodies were all yummy:
Chicken Salad on Whole Wheat
Cucumber and Herbed Cheese on White
Blueberry Scone with Clotted Cream
Tuxedo Dipped Chocolate Covered Strawberry

Low Tea at the Museum

Before leaving for the tour associated with Kenwood House Exhibition
a glass of sparkling wine.

My World: Public Art - MIrror

A nice walk around Rice University to see the new public sculptures
(before the heat and humidity set in).
This is Mirror by Jaume Plensa.

Mirror is a site specific installation by international artist Jaume Plensa. Mirror features two 10 foot tall figures positioned in conversation with each other.  Up close, their physical forms are an intermingling of white coated marine steel letters from many alphabets. Viewers are provided with an entry point to each figure, where they can physically walk inside the sculpture. One of the new public art works celebrating Rice University's centennial.

My World: A Study in Bloom

Most of you know I've been complaining this week about the cold I have.
When I don't feel well, I don't want to do much.
Staring out the window into the garden is about all I've wanted to do.
So, I decided to take photos of the amaryllis as it started to bloom.

Amaryllis

I'm not good at keeping track of the names of my amaryllis.
This one is the first to bloom in Musashi's Garden this year.

Amaryllis Mosaic

I took photos every day, sometimes several times a day
to document its journey from bud to bloom.

Mosaic Amaryllis

I got up one morning and WOW!
The journey was done.
A beautiful amaryllis in full bloom.
