This and That

I love this time of year.
There is a promise that the days will cool and wonderful walks are in the future.
Last year, because of the drought, the acorns were few and far between.
This year the squirrels can't collect them fast enough before the acorns cover the ground.
I love Halloween and love to share Halloween fun!

This is a reproduction of a vintage Halloween postcard.
Isn't he quite clever!
Yes, we *auto* have a Happy Halloween.

It's that time again.
Classes have started at Rice University.
The Boys are Back!
Time for Fall Ball.
I walked over to watch the action.
So many new freshmen.

Fall Ball

There's just nothing like the sound of the bat hitting the ball!

**

Walking home from Rice I spotted some Halloween decorations.
This Halloween man made me smile.
His head turns from side to side.

Happy Halloween Pumpkin Man

I don't think this Ghost is going to scare anyone!
What a great welcome he'll be to Trick or Treaters.

Finally, I finished the last black cat square.
I went to Michaels and found a gray yarn that was very close to the original.
This is what the afghan would have looked like.
It is huge.
I'm glad I decided to make four lapghans instead.

Mina and Cassie

I did do some tweaking of the pattern when I decided lapghans were the way to go.

I can't put anything on the floor without having a cat or two check things out.
Now I have the kitty seal of approval for the lapghans.

Wishing YOU well and much joy!

Good Morning!

This And That

It's been a wonderful week.
Cool mornings -- finally!
Hot afternoons, but very little humidity -- Yay!
Good walking weather.

***

My follow-up visit with the eye surgeon went well.
Getting used to the new lens.
My sight changes a little daily as the lens settles in.
Life is so much brighter -- literally!

***

Mail Call brought this lovely postcard from China.
I have a dear friend there on a Fulbright doing research to complete her
PhD in Art History.

Beijing Imperial Palace

This is Peking University where she is taking some classes.
It used to be part of the Emperor's Summer Palace.
Woot!
School in a palace!

How about a little needle and hook news?!!

This is a close-up of a shawl I completed for a friend.

Romancing the Shawl

This is a free Red Heart Pattern called Romancing The Shawl. I did not use the yarn that was suggested. Instead, I used Red Heart Boutique Changes in the Granite color (6 yarns in one) and still achieved the wonderful texture. It was an easy pattern to follow and I may have to knit one for myself!

Jack-O-Lantern Lapghan

Finally finished two squares in the crochet Halloween afghan.
Except, I decided the afghan would be too large for me!
So, I decided to make four lapghans.

Kitty Lapghan

I've completed two Jack-O-Lantern squares and started another black cat.
I was happily putting rows together when I realized I had put them together
basakwards (as my Granny would say).
Well.
What to do?
I have plenty of black yarn, but not a lot of the grey.
Taking it apart is next to impossible. I'm afraid I'm a really good put them togetherer (!!!),
but would really make a mess taking it apart!
I decided to put things away.
Let my new eye rest.
Start again another day!

The Halloween Afghan was designed by Martha Brooks Stein and the pattern has
a copyright date of 2008 by DRG.

Just Around The Corner

I'm looking forward to fall
and right around the corner is
Halloween.

I'd like you to meet Henry Higgins and Eliza Boolittle!
I found them at Tuesday Morning.
They were pushed to the very back of a shelf.
I almost didn't see them.
Good thing they called to me!

The Die Is Cast

I really like the kitties along the bottom of this reproduction postcard.
The witch looks like a Mother Goose in costume with her geese leading the way across the sky!
And, of course, there is a tiny owl.

Halloween

"When doubt and fear creep o'er you
And your  heart is beating fast,
Look in a glass of water
If it's clear, the die is cast."

There was no information on the back of the card about the designer or the date.

Many thanks to the lovely Beth for being our hostess for

Wishing YOU well and a fun filled weekend.

I thought we'd walk around Musashi's Garden.
Halloween has arrived here, too!

Thank you to our hostesses:
Mary for Mosaic Monday
and
The Tablescaper for Seasonal Sunday.

I cut my tomatoes back instead of pulling them up and
I was amazed when I found tomatoes starting again on the balcony garden.
I also have Mesclun and Spinach and hopefully, some sweet peas!
We'll see how friendly Mother Nature is after our horrible summer.
It is estimated that the tree loss will be in the millions.
It will take a generation to rebuild the canopy in Houston, if we are lucky.

Wishing YOU well and a JOY filled week.

Halloween Entertaining

Today I'm joining Natasha

Boo!

Today I'm sharing a black and white tea for one
with Ms. Abracadabra and her little sister, Boo!

Boo Tea

I think I'm going to brew some Chai to go with the Ghiradelli brownie
and the chocolate chip mini muffin.

Boo Tea

The black and white Tea for One pattern is called Quill.

Tea 4 One

The tea for one came in a wonderful box and I took a picture of it
to show you the information about the cup.
You would need a magnifying glass to read the same info on the bottom of the cup/saucer
and tea pot!

Let's Go Shopping!

Let's go shopping for Halloween decorations!

Halloween Mosaic

I'm lucky enough to have a close friend who is as crazy about Halloween as I am.
We went into our Village to a shop called Blue Leaf
and found all these wonderful Halloween decorations.

Did we come home with some?
You bet!
And, lots of pictures!

A big thank you to Mary for being our hostess for

Wishing YOU well and a wonderful week.
To my Canadian friends, Happy Thanksgiving!

Fortune Teller

At least I think she is a fortune teller!

Fortune Teller

There are a lot of things I like about this Halloween postcard...
the pumpkin blooms and vine
all the black cats on her dress
and the funny one sitting next to her
the playing cards I assume she uses to tell fortunes
apples, the clock, the bat, jack-o-lantern.
I'm not sure about the snake in her hand.
In many ways she is quite modern looking, but this another reproduction postcard.

Thank you to the lovely Beth for hosting

Wishing YOU well and a fun filled weekend!

Good Morning!

***

As you can tell, Halloween has taken over Twisty Lane!
October was our favorite month.
Mr. Dragon and I were together for 30 years.
We would have celebrated another anniversary this month.
We celebrated all month ... the cooler (we hoped) weather, our life together.
We didn't need much reason to celebrate October.

Wishing YOU well and a bright and beautiful day!

Halloween Tea

I have a theory about living down here near the Gulf of Mexico
where plants are forever green.
When Fall comes around and it's time for Halloween,
we just have to pull out all the stops and decorate.
It's sort of our color changes!
It makes us think that Fall is here and one day it will get cool.

Halloween Tea

So, today I'm sharing a Halloween tea.
My black and white tea for one.
I love the design with all the different tea pots.
I forgot to take a photo of the bottom of the cup and tea pot.
The mark looks like a postage stamp with Pewter Tea Pots,
Designed in England written in the middle.

Halloween Tea

I was reading the latest issue of Martha Stewart Magazine.
I'm not a big magazine reader except for this time of year
when I go hog wild and pig crazy if any publication has anything about
the upcoming holidays. The prettier the photographs the better!
Under GOOD THINGS I found:
"Sensational Sip"
"Cider Rules"
"For those chilly autumn mornings when it's still too early to brew a hot toddy, try a warm, steamy cup of tea steeped in hot cider instead of water. We especially like Earl Grey tea; the resulting combination is a lightly sweet, subtly tart drink that warms the senses."
Will you try it???

Thanks to our tea party hostesses.
These are just a few of the tea parties in the Land of Blog.

Wishing YOU well and a wonderful cup of tea!
