Five Random Things

It's Friday.

Sit back and relax.

I have some random, this and that, things for you.

Thank you, Nancy!

*

Since today is Good Friday and Easter is Sunday,
here is a reproduction vintage postcard celebrating the holiday.

Easter Greetings

No artist, publisher or date was listed.
Can you hear the music?!!!

Thank you to the lovely Beth for hosting Postcard Friendship Friday each week.

Sometimes the kitties think simplest toys are the best.
Like an empty box.
In this case, it was a waded up piece of paper.
I think the sound got Cassie's attention.
I threw it across the room, Cassie fetched, and we had a game going that's lasted all week.
Of course, the other two had to get in on the act and two more pieces of paper gave their all in
two furious games of soccer for Teddy and Mina.

I mentioned that I finished a counted cross stitch project.
I couldn't share it with you as it was a birthday gift.
The gift has been delivered and here is the project all finished.

Home is Where The Dog Is

This is a kit I purchased from The Stitchery.

I'm taking part in the Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap.
This is my first postcard swap and the reason I liked it --
I could use photographs of art I had previously made.
Five postcards (goes well with 5 random things) could be made of one image or more.
I made five different postcards using 4 Index Card a Day images and one tea image.
Kat Sloma put the swap together and I should be seeing postcards in the mail by mid April.
I'll share as they come in.
Thank you Kat!

What a lovely book and what lovely letter writing.
It really makes you think about the lost art of writing ... and writing letters.
I'm taking the letters a few at a time.

Wishing YOU well and much joy this holiday season.
Happy Spring!

WIP

I thought I'd share some Works In Progress with you.

Most of my journal time the last few weeks have been spent
writing about Rocky.

Before Rocky's passing,
I had started this lady.
I was quite excited about her.
I wanted to work on a few techniques before I put her on canvas.
This is from my journal.

I'm not sure now where I'm going with her,
but I'll start again -- one day.

You can tell by the wrinkles that this is definitely a WIP!
What a lot of fun!
Reading glasses are a must!

My book making supplies have all arrived.
YeeeeeeHaaaaaaw!

Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today...July 6, 2009

Outside my window... the sun is shinning brightly. There are a few wispy clouds in the sky.

I am thinking... yikes! Half the year is gone. How time flies as you get older (have more fun, are busier -- take your pick).

I am thankful for...another day on Mother Earth.

From the kitchen... I am going to make one of Mr. Dragon’s favorite meals, Red Curry Beef stew. We don’t eat a lot of meat and this will be a special treat for him.

I am wearing... gym clothes - red shorts, gray Planet Hollywood Paris T-shirt, tennis shoes.

I am reading... The Commoner by John Burnham Schwartz. Marie at A Year from Oak Cottage mentioned this book in her Daybook post last week. It looked like something I would enjoy and I put it in my amazon stack. Lo and behold (some things are just meant to be), I found a much cheaper copy at Costco. No waiting for shipping. I’m really enjoying it. There will be a short review when I’m finished.

I am hoping...the weathermen are correct and we get a little rain to break this heat cycle for a few days.

I am creating... I finished the counted cross-stitch and should have the pig done this week (crochet).

I am praying... for Anne Marie and Cydney Marie, Debbie, Jean

Around the house... I can hear the water running. Mr. Dragon is outside watering the plants in pots.

One of my favorite things...seeing what the postman has left for us! This came in the mail from Kelley at Dragonfly Reflections. Isn’t the card fun?! I do love birds and this is just perfect. I also enjoy the list of easy ways to move from autopilot to mindfulness. Thank you Kelley for all my goodies!

A few plans for the rest of the week...staying cool is big on the list. Mr. Dragon starts a color pencil workshop this week. Staying cool. We have a baseball game on Wednesday (good thing that Minute Maid stadium has a roof that closes and air conditioning). Hair cuts. Staying cool. Off to Hobby Lobby with a coupon to look at color pencils and rubber stamps. Staying cool. Sending off a few packages. Staying cool.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

Isn't he a little doll? This photo and a few more came in an email - one of those emails that gets sent to everyone on your list type emails. I couldn't resist sharing!

Joy to You!

Potpourri

Happy Friday everyone!

Today I have a journal page, cross stitch and a short review of a cozy mystery.

The journal page "Life is a Garden" was fun to do.
I cut and pasted, and cut and pasted, and cut and pasted, and .....
I stamped some, too - but didn't like it and tried to cover it over.
All in all, I like Ms. Flora in her garden.

Isn't this cute? Now I have to get it framed.
I have cross-stitch urge.
Good thing.
I have a huge tote bag full of counted cross stitch that needs to be done!

Lastly, I finished The Silver Needle Murder: A Tea Shop Mystery by Laura Childs. This was number nine in this cozy mystery series set in Charleston, South Carolina. I sometimes wonder why I have continued to read this series. The mystery is usually an easy one to figure out or one that comes to a completion in a moment and makes no sense. I decided I continue to read them because I like the setting and the characters. Theodosia Browning and the staff of the Indigo Tea Shop are "the cats pajamas" (thank you granny). Theodosia has a dog named Earl Grey who occasionally is in the spotlight; Drayton is a master tea blender; Haley the young baker extraordinaire; Delaine Dish owns the Cotton Duck Boutique; Detective Tidwell and Charleston is, well, Charleston!

In The Silver Needle Murder the Charleston Film Festival brings a busy week of catering jobs to the Indigo Tea Shop. The first job is for the opening night gala at the historic and newly renovated, Belvedere Theatre. The festival starts off with a bang when famous director Jordan Cole is shot on his way to the podium and the entire audience witnesses his death silhouetted across the scrim.

Theodosia is asked to stand in as a judge when two of them quit. She agrees and gets pulled into the investigation of the murder.

As in all good cozy mysteries, Theo finds out who done it by accident. She's in the wrong place at the right time. But the conclusion was a little abrupt and not well concluded. There are some nice recipes at the end and some suggestions for tea parties.

So, will I read another in the series? Yes! I love the characters and all the talk about one of my favorite subjects, TEA. I want to hear what new blend Drayton has come up with and what Haley's menu for the day is. Yum!

If you like cozy mysteries, these would be good summer reads (especially if you like TEA). Most of them are available in paperback at your local used book store.

Happy Friday!
