It's Mardi Gras time.
That means King Cake!
This one has a Strawberry Creme filling.
Yum.
Here on the Gulf Coast the King Cake is associated with the pre-Lenten celebrations of Mardi Gras/Carnival.
In the southern United States, the tradition was brought to the area by colonists from France and Spain.
The King Cake comes in a number of styles. The most simple, said to be the most traditional, is a ring of twisted cinnamon roll-style dough topped with icing or sugar, usually colored purple, green and gold (traditional Mardi Gras colors) with food coloring. King cakes may also be filled with additional foodstuffs - the most common being cream cheese, praline, cinnamon or strawberry.
Finding the baby in the cake is said to bring good luck and you must supply the King Cake for the next years party.

I've started adding the green to the flowers for the afghan.
Almost finished The Readaholics and the Gothic Gala by Laura DiSilverio.
I enjoy the readholics series.
Book club members that always seems to get caught up in murder
and the book they are reading offers clues!
This time they are reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.
Wishing YOU well and much joy!

The Afghan looks like it is coming along well, the colours are lovely
A lovely five. Sofie looks wonderful and the King cake delicious, with a fascinating tradition too. I like the sound of the Readaholics books. Have a lovely weekend:)
The Readaholics series sounds like fun! I must recommend it to a friend who is a book club afficionado!
The first little league team I ever played for we're based on the Astros. Never knew if our little league actually had permission to do that from the MLB or not.
But since I live 3 hours from Atlanta, I'm loyal to the Braves
I have to admit that I don't know anything about baseball at all but your photos are lovely. I have read the first in that series and really like it. I have the others on my to-be-read pile. I really like that author.
Happy Five on Friday
Sofie looks like quite the fan. I'll have to check out the readaholics series. You've never steered me wrong!
I like the look of King Cake! It sounds yummy.
Sophie is sucha sweet looking dog!
Good work on the afghan too!
I loved Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, couldn't put it down!
Enjoy!
The Readaholics sounds like an interesting series, and certainly Rebecca would offer opportunity for murder! I hadn't heard of King Cake for Mardi Gras; but the French serve a King Cake on Epiphany, Jan 6. Interesting traditions all over the world. Have a wonderful weekend.
What a perfectly marvelous postcard! I thoroughly enjoyed this blog entry. You made me smile--which is something I needed this evening. ((hugs)) :D

I can imagine how exciting the start of the season is for you Snap.
Rugby is our national game in New Zealand and it's just starting here!
I was going to mention 'La Galette des Rois' but Lorrie has got in before me haha!
Love seeing the canine baseball follower🐕
I had never heard of King cake and its association with Mardi Gras so it is very interesting to learn about it and thradition. It looks very yummy too.
I love King cake. it is delicious. Thanks for sharing this post at Monday Social.
I had never heard of King cake until this year, or the traditions that go with it. It's interesting to learn about new things and be enlightened. i enjoyed your post :)

It's always fascinating to learn about the different traditions and foods from other places enjoyed before Lent. When we lived in Bavaria, Southern Germany the food on Faschingsdienstag (a.k.a Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras) was Krapfen - huge puffy doughnuts which were delicious!
Happy Mosaic Monday.
Interesting information and a very cute mosaic! Just seeing the first photo makes me ready to go to a ball game!
King's Cake sounds like the perfect celebratory sweet, and the different variations of it delicious, as well.
We celebrated Mardi Gras yesterday with a traditional BBQ of marinated meat and chicken, along with many side dishes. Today, for Clean Monday, the table was set with curry jumbo shrimp and grilled calamari, lots of veggie dishes and unleavened bread, being the first day of Lent.
Sophie is sweet!
Happy Mosaic Monday!
Poppy :)
Fun five.

We spent a couple of Winters on the Alabama Gulf Coast and boy did we love learning about Madri Gras .... in the Pacific Northwest, where we are from originally, we had Lent, but no parties leadership no up to it! We loved King Cakes and Parades and beads and everything about it. Thanks for the memories! (We spend winters in Florida also on the Gulf Coast, nowadays, but they don't seem to do much about this week. Darn it all! )
I'm going to look for that book! I love mysteries and intrigue. I could read Rebecca over and over again! Hugs!
Happy Mosaic Monday

So happy to hear about the Readaholics books. I miss Lilian Jackson Braun.

I had never heard of King Cake, and I didn't know that there are traditional colours for mardi gras, so thank you. The cake sounds like the Galette des Rois made for Epiphany. Hope you had a good weekend. x
