I was nervous about the rain we had earlier in the week.
We sure needed the rain,
but I didn't want to miss the Rice University Farmers Market Summerfest.
I put on my raincoat -- sure that it wouldn't rain as long as I had it on!
And I was correct.
The vendors were busy.
I picked up some tomatoes from the young man in the orange shirt.
He works for Atkinson Farms.
He didn't have any of the sweet yellow tomatoes that I love,
but the red ones will be good.
Peaches!
Probably the last of the season.
I was very happy to get them.
They have been delicious.

I grabbed a beer from Karbach Brewery.
I tried the Hopadillo this time.
The cans are such fun.
The stories are always good.
"He lurks in the shadows, waiting in bold anticipation.
He's surprisingly bitter.
Bitter about something.
Legend has it that he feasts on those with fresh hops
coursing through their veins.
This dry hopped,
Texas IPA has a flavor as defiant as the Hopadillo himself.
It's packed with the bracing bitterness of hops from around the world
that this creature craves.
He's coming to get you.
You've been warned."
I enjoyed my beer while listening to a fine, young trio.
They performed a rousing rendition of Goodnight Irene
and other snappy tunes.
Not a bad way to end a very rainy day.

Rain always presents this dilemma because we need it but don't want it! Glad it didn't dampen your sense of fun and time at the festival!
Thanks for letting us know about Beatrix Potter!
That sounds like a perfect day and your illustrations put me right there. The tomatoes, peaches and beer would all have caught my attention too! I always enjoy music at a market - it makes shopping take on the air of a party!
The earth's bounty is looking good down there.
The market looks great, I always enjoy peaches too. I always think the same, as long as I am dressed for rain, it won't ha! The beer can story is great and there is nothing better than listening to some live music. Have a lovely weekend xx
Those tomatoes just couldn't be any redder! Ours are still green on our plants but hopefully will burst into redness soon!
I spent yesterday afternoon perusing our farmers market and there are always musicians who add to the atmosphere.
No rain for us though, we're having our first drought in about 10 years.
Great idea to wear your rain coat...that has the opposite effect of washing your car haha....you got some good things from the market and that is a fun beer can! Thank you so much for linking! Have a great weekend 😊
Nothing beats fresh fruit and veggies! We have a local farm that I always visit in the summer...they have the best corn on the cob. We have it at least once a week! It looks like you had a fabulous day, in spite of the rain. Happy Friday... Have a wonderful weekend :)
aren't farmer's markets the most fun. I love the veggies that are grown locally and just seeing the people wandering about. Have a great weekend... and stay cool.
Farmer's Markets, fresh veggies and fruit and a good beer. Sounds real good, with a little Beatrix Potter to top it off. Have a good weekend.
I run at Rice in the evenings and I see the signs, but I have never been to the Farmer's Market.
It's too hot to be outside in the daylight.
Perhaps if they had it at night...
Your rainy day had lots of sunny bits and pieces in it. The music, the tomatoes, the peaches, the beer! Peaches are just beginning here - so sweet and juicy.
What a lovely day. The peaches and tomatoes look wonderful:)
Looks like a wonderful market. Those peaches look so yummy. And, the beer can is quite unique. Enjoy your day, Pat
I love visiting farmer's markets! Peaches so fresh must be delicious. Have a lovely weekend
I always hate bad weather
Looks like a fun farmers market! I like those microbreweries who have FUN with their products!
Great Five, the tomatoes look delicious and I'd definitely have to give the 'dillo brew a try
Despite the rain a funny day, the tomatoes looks delicious and the peaches grows in your area? With us to cold...
I like B. Potter.
Send you a little sunshine
Those tomatoes are so pretty I can almost taste them!
You're right, as long as you've got your coat on, it won't rain! Those peaches and tomatoes look delicious:-)
So glad you kept the rain away and were able to take me with you on your visit to this interesting place. The beer sounds interesting!
Glad that the rain didn't come thanks to your coat! It looks like a lovely market and you got some great produce too. Thank you too for joining Five On Friday. I hope that you have a great August and I look forward to seeing you again in September! xx p.s. I agree, happy birthday to Beatrix Potter!
I would gladly wrap myself in my raincoat for a good downpour, we need it so here. Glad to see a little rain didn't keep you from a great time. I love farmer's markets and try to go as often as possible. We have a several good ones here, one is held down by the river. Lots of fresh produce, home baked goodies and music. I will be going early Wednesday morning, as they say "the early bird catches the worm." I love Beatrice Potter and have quite a few of her books and figurines. Happy Week.
I agree that even cloudy days can be lovely days. Good for you to get out and experience it. Google Susan Branch for more info on Beatrix Potter. Susan is a author, blogger, watercolor artist who is also a huge fan of the amazing Ms. Potter...me too. Enjoy.
Farmer's markets are always fun to browse for good fruit and veggies and a nice way to spend a rainy morning. That beer sounds good!
