It's college baseball season.
It's time to hear the wondrous sound of the bat hitting the ball.
The Rice University Owls take the field this evening
against the Stanford Cardinal
and I'm ready!
In honor of the start of the season,
I'm sharing a postcard from the Pomegranate Book of Postcards:
America Plays Ball: Historical Baseball Photographs from the Library of Congress.
The back of the postcard reads:
Hitting the ball in Rock Creek Park, Washington, D.C., July, 1942
Photograph by John Ferrell
There's nothing like baseball! It gets you out-of-doors,
fills you with oxygen (all that yelling).
It is a pastime that is enjoyed by young and old, male and female,
East and West, North and South.

Many thanks to all of you for your wonderful comments and emails
of condolence on Mr. Dragon's passing to the stars.
His spirit will be with me this weekend as the baseball season starts.
He loved college baseball and the Rice Owls.
Wishing you well.

Although I have not attended many baseball games, I've listened to quite a few on the radio. The crack of the bat and the cheer of the crowd are sounds never to be forgotten.

Go Owls! I hope you have a hoot at the game!
Hi Snap, I was thinking when reading about the Rice Owls Baseball season beginning, that Mr. Dragon would be there in spirit for sure...
I love baseball. It's the 'American way'... You know--baseball and apple pie!!!!!! God Bless America!!!!
Enjoy the game...
Hugs,
Betsy
And I know what a big ball fan you are! You must be ecstatic. I remember the days of playing all kinds of sports with NO protective equipment. I remember riding my bike with the wind blowing through my hair...Of course I see the necessity of helmets etc. but there is a certain thrill of going without too. You postcard made me think of that!
I think Mr Dragon will be there in the bleachers with you, Snap. Let your own spirit soar!
I didn't think that Spring Training started so early, but then - there's still snow on the ground here, and it's going to stay for awhile yet.
I like that "gets you out of doors fills you with oxygen, all that yelling". So funny, and true, rings true for all sports fans. Great card.
Spring training is starting for the major league teams too.
Sigh. I am sad to say I visit your blog only as part of PFF - you always comment on my posting, thank you. So I did not know aobut Mr. Dragon until reading your blog and comments today. I am so very sorry about your loss.
Have fun at the ballgame....Go Owls!!
College sports of just about any kind are always so much fun!

Howdy Snap
Happy PFF and a big yippee for college baseball season !!!!
This is a wonderful card .
Thank you for sharing with us .
Have a fantastic rest of the weekend my blogging friend .
Until Next Time
Happy Trails
When I was a kid, we used to play ball in the field across the street from where I lived. Just a bunch of kids, no parents, not much in the way of rules - just divvy up sides and play ball. Don't imagine that goes on much anymore.
Hope you enjoy the baseball. I too am sorry for your loss and wish you well.
