This week on Postcard Friendship Friday, the lovely Beth is talking about returning to school.
School has already started here.
Fall and cooler weather can't be far behind!
I'd like to share two postcards from the Pomegranate Collection:
Gal Pals: Women's Friendship and Association.
The back of the card reads: "Reading lesson, Ontario, Oregon, 1939"
Photograph by Dorothea Lange
"Reading lesson at a farm workers' community school, Woodville, California, 1942"
Each week you can see a variety of postcards from the old to the new,
the comic to the serious, a true variety.
Happy PFF!
Joy to You!

You can definitely see Dorothea Lange's style in the first photo!
That was me in the "olden days," Snap!
These are treasures... wonderful cards
TFS... Happy PFF
Ahhh school! My Pip started yesterday and now we're both doing homework.
These are great. Lange was quite the photographer, cheerier though than Walker Evans.....xox Corrine
They're all self-taught with nary a teacher in sight!
Bygone era...peer-pressure to read.
A modern postcard might show a bunch of girls twittering feverishly...:)
Love the old postcards ---and these school pictures are neat... Those little girls are so cute in their little dresses... But--my memories of all of the old maid school teachers back then in the '40's is a lady with a bun on the back of her head.... ha ha
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy
I like both, but the first one is my favorite. And the fact that it's an Oregon scene is especially of interest to me. :-)
Hello, dear friend,
Oh, I adore these two postcards. I am a retired teacher, and I especially love to get children enthused about reading. Just love these photos. Thank you for sharing. Happy September my fellow Texan. We are supposed to have a very cool morning in the morning. I am looking forward to some cooler weather, how about you? Love and hugs~Vicki
Lovely. I like Pom. postcards, but I haven't see this set.
Hi Snap. Can I copy the first one? I would love to do something with it!!! Thanks for coming by and you have a great weekend.
Something about all the girls on the porch - what a precious picture.
So sweet! Those double buckle strap shoes bring back memories. I can smell the pencils and crayons...
Oh, I like these! that one kid doesn't look too happy to be reading though. :)
That top card does bring back memories! I don't ever recall sitting on a step reading quite like that but the atmosphere is there! Wonderful.
Nice celebration of reading, women, and vintage photography!
a simpler time.
