African Forest

One of our good baseball buddies joined me for breakfast and a members only tour of the new
African Forest at the Houston Zoo.
It was a beautiful morning.

African Forest

Chimps have returned to the Houston Zoo with a family of ten.

Mosaic chimps

The chimps have a half acre to explore. Fun!!!

Have you heard of Koolookamba?

Face

From the mythical unicorns to the more modern day Yeti and Bigfoot, humans have a long history of fascination with animal legends and lore.

In Gabon today, there is a belief among the human population in a chimpanzee-gorilla hybrid, which they call the "Kooloo-kamba".

Fact or fiction, as visitors move through the African forest, they can find faces of the Koolookamba -- fun for the kids.

Be on the lookout!

The journey through the African Forest continues next week.

Wishing you well and JOY filled weekend!

I, too, love observing apes of all kinds. Our brothers, our kin? You got some great shots here, I'm looking forward to next weekend already!

These chimps are wonderful looking characters! Love this collection of photos! And the sign is very impressive too!

Thanks for stopping by to see my critters :)

Gorillas are fascinating. It is interesting to see how their behaviors are so similar to humans. Glad you were able to attend the zoo function. We moved over the summer and unfortunately there is only a small zoo in the area.

A great collage Snap. The chimp just lying back in the sun is so relaxed, just makes me want to do the same.

Africa is my favourite continent but I've never heard of the Koolookamba... Thanks! :-) Great post.

That's so neat, how the legend has been integrated into the exhibit!

I love chimps. They all have such distinct personalities. I have a young niece who also loves chimps and monkeys, better than silly ol rabbits or bears, she says.

(I am getting her a handmade sock monkey from Etsy!)

Thanks for sharing!!

This was so much fun. An armchair tour from rainy California (such a blessing).

I love Tomato Blessings too and have it in hard cover. Ed says it is out of print now. Why? It is so great.

Happy week to you,
